Position Overview 

  • Organisation: Women’s Association for Women and Victims’ Empowerment (WAVE-Gambia).
  • Job Type: Full-Time
  • The Head of Operations will be tasked with managing the daily activities of WAVE-Gambia, offering leadership and coordination across programmatic, administrative, financial, and operational areas.
  • This individual will ensure the efficient management of resources, support and guide the development and execution of projects, and cultivate a unified and motivated team. 
  • This position is vital for advancing WAVE-Gambia's mission through effective organisational management, resource mobilisation, and adherence to donor requirements, all in line with WAVE's programmatic and institutional strategic goals.

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Operational and Administrative Leadership

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the office, encompassing administrative tasks, logistics, and team coordination to ensure seamless and effective performance. 
  • Offer direction and leadership to the WAVE team, serving as the office head to promote a cooperative and efficient work atmosphere. 
  • Formulate, execute, and uphold organisational policies and procedures to sustain high levels of governance and accountability. 
  • Act as a representative for WAVE-Gambia in meetings and forums as assigned by the Senior Technical Advisor.

  1. Project Development and Management

  • Take the lead in drafting and supporting the creation of project proposals and applications, ensuring they align with the organisation's priorities and meet donor requirements. 
  • Work closely with program teams to develop feasible budgets for both project applications and ongoing activities. 
  • Manage the allocation and tracking of funds for various project activities, ensuring transparency and adherence to donor guidelines. 
  • Ensure that project implementation aligns with strategic program objectives. 
  • Financial Oversight and Resource Mobilization Assist in financial planning and budgeting processes by collaborating with finance staff to monitor spending and ensure resources are used efficiently. 
  • Support the STA in identifying funding opportunities, drafting concept notes, and maintaining communication with donors and partners. 
  • Ensure financial reports are accurate and submitted on time to donors and internal management.
  • Monitoring, Reporting, and Compliance Supervise the preparation of regular progress reports on project implementation for both internal and external audiences, including donors. 
  • Ensure all activities adhere to organizational policies, donor requirements, and relevant legal frameworks. Facilitate and participate in internal reviews and audits as needed.


Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Development Studies, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 4-5 years of progressively responsible experience in organizational management, program coordination, and donor-funded project administration, preferably in human rights, transitional justice, or women’s empowerment sectors.
  • Proven experience in project proposal writing, budgeting, and financial oversight.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide diverse teams.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with donor compliance, reporting standards, and resource mobilization strategies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, project management software, and financial tracking tools.
  • Commitment to equitable gender initiatives, human rights, and social justice principles.
