Eligibility Criteria for the MEXT Scholarship

• Be an international student from an eligible country (check the official list)
• Hold a GPA of 2.30 or higher (on a 3.0 scale) in their bachelor’s degree.
• Furthermore, applicants must be born on or after April 2, 1991
• Have completed the required education for a Master’s or Doctoral entry in a relevant field
• Be proficient in English or Japanese (check program requirements)
•  Enter Japan with a “Student” residence status and obtain a visa before arrival
• Be in good physical and mental health
• Not residing or studying in Japan at the time of application

• Letter of recommendation (from Dean or equivalent)

 Note: The MEXT Japanese scholarship 2026 will not cover travel expenses if the applicant reaches Japan after or before the designated time. If they cannot travel during the specified period, they should decline the scholarship. If the students arrive without a newly obtained visa, the scholarship will also be revoked.
 Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted. Documents in other languages must be accompanied by a translation.
