- ¥145,000 for Doctoral students
- Additional ¥2,000–3,000 for some research students

Eligibility Criteria for the MEXT Scholarship

- Be an international student from an eligible country (check the official list)
- Hold a GPA of 2.30 or higher (on a 3.0 scale) in their bachelor’s degree.
- Furthermore, applicants must be born on or after April 2, 1991
- Have completed the required education for a Master’s or Doctoral entry in a relevant field
- Be proficient in English or Japanese (check program requirements)
- Enter Japan with a “Student” residence status and obtain a visa before arrival
- Be in good physical and mental health
- Not residing or studying in Japan at the time of application
- Not having received a Japanese government (MEXT) scholarship before under the same category
