CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A POOL OF FIELD STAFF (VARIOUS PROFILES: ENUMERATORS, SUPERVISORS, PLATFORM MONITORS) FOR THE NATIONAL AGRICULTURAL SAMPLE CENSUS 2025/26.
Background
The Department of Planning (DOP) is committed to building a robust information base to support decision-making and assess the impact of initiatives in agricultural and rural development in the Gambia.
As part of this mission, DOP regularly conducts agricultural sector surveys. To strengthen its data collection efforts, DOP is launching this call for applications to create a database of qualified agents (field staff) for the National Agriculture Sample Census.
The available positions include:
- Field Enumerators
- Field Supervisors
- Platform Monitors
Successful candidates will play a key role in ensuring accurate and reliable data collection to support evidence-based agricultural policies and programs in The Gambia.
- Field staff selection procedure
Field staff will be recruited based on selected criteria outlined in Section III following the current call for application.
Registrations shall be made online using the Department of Planning (DoP), Ministry of Agriculture Livestock & Food Security (MoALFS) recruitment platform: https://agricapply.gbos.gm/
Applications must be submitted no later than Friday, 27th June, 2025 at 12:30PM through the designated web link provided above. We strongly recommend that your profile is accurate, complete and includes all required information.
This registration will last two (2) weeks and a pre-selection will be made following the first examination by the independent recruitment committee. Successful candidates will confirm their application on a web platform set up for this purpose.
The final list will be retained at the end of the training which will be sanctioned by a final evaluation through a practical case. The punctuality of trainees for training will be part of the evaluation criteria. Furthermore, a waiting list of candidates will be included at the end of the evaluation to compensate for possible cases of withdrawals, resignations or illness during the enumeration. Finally, in the event that an insufficient number of successful candidates are selected for the role of supervisor through the defined direct selection mechanism, the top-performing trainees for enumerator positions will be retained as supervisors upon completion of the training.
Candidates may be requested to provide performance assessments and authorization to conduct verification checks of past and present work, and education records to ascertain any and all information which may be pertinent to the employment qualifications.

- Field staff selection criteria
To participate in the National Agriculture Sample Census (NASC), candidates must meet the eligibility criteria outlined below.
Candidates may be required to submit performance evaluations and provide authorization for verification of past and present employment, as well as educational records, to confirm all information relevant to their qualifications for the position.
- Field staff.
The Field staff have the primary task of collecting agricultural statistical data in the survey areas assigned to them.
To participate in the National Agriculture Sample Census (NASC) as a Field staff, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria and requirements:
- Be a Gambian citizen;
- Be at least eighteen (18) years old;
- Be a maximum of 60 years old;
- Hold at least the WASSCE/Secondary Four with 4 credits. Diploma in Agriculture is an added asset;
- Be able to communicate in the local languages of the area for which the applicant is recruited (be fluent in at least one of the dominant local languages of the assigned area);
- Be available and free from any other commitment throughout the data collection period;
- Be willing to stay in the assigned area;
- Be able to work in a team, under pressure and at somewhat late hours;
- Speak and write English fluently (working language);
- Be proficient in using a tablet or smartphone;
- Having proven experience in data collection with tablet or smartphone is an asset;
- Having a means of transportation is an asset;
- Having a working smartphone is required;
- Be able to complete a questionnaire (reading, conversion, etc.);
- Be able to accurately enter data into smartphones or tablets and perform data transfers;
- Be able to ride a motorcycle for off-road travel is an asset;
- Must be in good health. Due to the nature of the work, pregnant and lactating women are not eligible for selection.
Platform monitors
Plateform monitors (data editors) are tasked with:
- Daily monitoring of data sent to the SuSo platform by field agents or supervisors;
- Summarizing observations related to work during checks;
- Proposing corrections for anomalies found in collected data and be in continuous contact with the teams on the field ;
- Writing daily control reports.
Candidates who meet the following conditions can apply:
- Be a Gambian citizen;
- Be at least eighteen (18) years old;
- Be a maximum of 60 years old;
- Hold at least the WASSCE/Secondary Fourth or any other equivalent diploma;
- Proven mastery of data collection using smartphones or tablets, particularly with Survey Solutions;
- Experience as a data editor in an agricultural survey is an asset.
- Strong ability to work effectively in a team, under pressure and at somewhat late hours;
- Must be fully available and free from any other commitment for the entire duration of the operation;
- Must have satisfactorily participated in at least three (3) national data collection exercises. with supporting documentation. References from previous employers may be contacted to verify performance and experience;
- Proficient in computer applications, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI.
- Experience with STATA is considered as a strong asset;
- Having participated in a DOP survey is an advantage.
Review of applications
Recruitment will be done at the local level in all 3 regional centers in the country. At the close of registrations, applications will be reviewed at the regional centers on the basis of the above-mentioned criteria before the central recruitment committees are held.
