Applications for the Rhodes Scholarship 2026 are now open!

What is the Rhodes Scholarship?

It is a fully-funded postgraduate award that allows gifted young individuals from across the globe to pursue full-time studies at the University of Oxford. The scholarship is merit-based, aiming to cultivate leaders with a public spirit and to foster international understanding and peace through a global community of Scholars. Applying for the Scholarship is challenging, yet it has enabled generations of young people to achieve success. We encourage applications from talented students everywhere. Rhodes Scholars travel to the UK for two or more years and can apply to most full-time postgraduate programs in nearly any discipline offered by Oxford University.

What does the Rhodes Scholarship Cover?

The Rhodes Scholarship covers the University of Oxford's course fees and provides an annual stipend. For the 2024/25 academic year, the stipend is £19,800 per year (£1,650 monthly), from which Scholars cover all living expenses, including accommodation. Please note: this amount is not sufficient to support partners or dependents. The detailed Conditions of Tenure document outlines the allowed combinations of degrees and the duration of study covered by the Scholarship, as this depends on the chosen course — for instance, up to three years of fees and stipend are available to Scholars pursuing a DPhil (PhD) at Oxford. After being selected for the Scholarship, the Rhodes Trust will also cover: The application fee for studying at the University of Oxford, Fees for a student visa and the associated International Health Surcharge (IHS), which allows international students to access the UK's National Health Service, Two economy class flights to and from the UK, marking the start and end of studies in Oxford. Upon arrival in Oxford, Scholars receive a settling-in allowance, and those transitioning to a second course of study in Oxford will receive support to cover the fees for visa renewal and further IHS applications.
