Job Summary
Under the general
supervision of the Director of Information Technology, the Senior Systems
Manager is responsible for providing technical support to employees;
installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and repairing IT systems; devising
strategies to develop new software and hardware solutions, and conducting
regular maintenance checks.
Responsibilities and Duties
1. General supervision and monitoring of
the systems to ensure continuous functionality and user access.
2. Design, draft and oversee the
implementation of IT policy documents and standard operating procedures.
3. Oversee the configuration,
installation, and ongoing maintenance of servers and enterprise-level
applications.
4. Participate in key infrastructure
planning and decision making regaing operating systems, server applications,
hardware, and storage solutions.
5. Provide strategic oversight and
technical guidance in the development, maintenance, and administration of
database systems.
6. Develop and implement strategies to
monitoring system and application performance to ensure optimal
operations.
7. Supervise, mentor, and provide
leadership to system administrators, engineers, and technical staff.
8. Coordinate and support training and
capacity building initiatives for IT personnel.
9. Conduct performance appraisal and
manage resource allocation across the IT systems team.

Design, develop and regularly test
disaster recovery plans and business continuity plan.
11. Ensure robust data backup and recovery
procedures are in place and functioning effectively.

Utilize system monitoring tools to
track system health status, uptime, and resource utilization
13. Diagnose and resolve system performance
issues, including bottlenecks and failures.
14.
Perform any other relevant duties as
assigned by the Director of Information Technology.
Knowledge Required
1. Strong knowledge of computer
security best practices and awareness of the latest IT developments in
information technology.
2. Practical expertise in IT systems and
infrastructure, including networks, database administration, help desk
operations, software development, and telecommunications.
3. Solid understanding of Safeguarding
principles and the importance of adhering to relevant policies and
procedures.
4. Proven skills in team building,
mentoring, performance management, and conflict resolution.
5. Proficiency in information system
programs and software, such as Microsoft Server platforms, MS Office Suite, and
Adobe Creative Suite.
6. Sound knowledge of Strategic planning
and project management methodologies.
Skills and Abilities Required
1. Strong leadership and administration
capabilities to manage teams and oversee IT operations effectively.
2. Expertise in incident monitoring,
troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
3. Proficiency in interpreting systems
performance metrics and analytics for informed decision making. 4. Ability to
work independently with minimal supervision and perform effectively under
pressure.
4. In-depth understanding of
enterprise operating system including Windows, Linux/Unix, and optionally
macOS.
5. Advance knowledge network technologies
such as LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, firewalls, and routing
protocols.
6. Proficiency in virtualization platforms
such as KVM, Hyper-V and VMware.
7. Skilled in designing scalable,
high-availability systems architecture.
8. Familiarity with storage technologies,
including SAN, NAS, RAID configurations, and enterprise-grade backup
solutions.
9. Strong understanding of both relational
and non-relational databases (e.g., MySQL, SQL Server).
10.
Solid grasp of cybersecurity concepts,
including encryption, authentication, access control, and threat
mitigation.
11. Experience with scripting languages
such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python to automate administrative tasks and
processes.
Qualification (Education) and Experience
1. A bachelor’s degree in computer
science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field is
required.
2. A Master’s degree in Computer
Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field is
preferred.
3. A minimum of 7 years of
post-qualification work experience in IT operations at managerial level, 5
years of which should be at a senior management level.
4. Certification in PHP or JAVA,
MySQL or SQL Server is required.
5. Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer
(MCSE) is an added advantage.
6. Demonstrated experience in:
- Programming
languages and operating systems (Windows and Linux).
- Security
and network/system administration.
- Database
and data storage systems.
- Enterprise
backup and recovery procedures.
- System performance monitoring and optimisation.
